Stocking a keto kitchen

Keto cooking gets easy once the basics are in the cupboard. Start small.

Olive oil, butter, eggs, almonds, parmesan, garlic, lemon and herbs on linen

Fats and oils

Olive oil for everyday cooking and dressings, butter or ghee for finishing, and one neutral oil for high heat. Buy fewer, better ones. A spray bottle makes a thin layer easy: olive oil spray bottle on Amazon UK.

Proteins

Eggs, chicken thighs, fish, mince and cheese cover most weeknights. Cuts with skin and bone usually taste better and are more forgiving.

Vegetables

Leafy greens, courgette, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms and peppers. Roast them hot with oil and salt so they brown and taste of more.

Flavour without carbs

Garlic, lemon, fresh herbs, mustard, vinegar and spices. Lemon zest and a pinch of salt at the end fix a lot of flat dishes. I use this fine zester on Amazon UK.

Check labels

Sauces, ready meals and "light" products often hide sugar or starch. Read the label rather than trusting the front.
